How To Avoid Kampala Traffic Jam

Kampala is not only the capital but also the busiest city in Uganda. It is located in the central part of the nation, about 47 kilometers from EBB, the country’s major international airport. The welcomes vehicles and thousands of commuters from various regions of the country daily.

The list of vehicles includes private cars, public taxis, buses, and trucks that transport cargo. While in central, Kampala is the starting point for roads to other regions in Uganda. Transport operators offer trips from the city center to places in western, northern, and eastern Uganda.

There are specific points you can visit if you need to use public means. These include taxi parks and bus terminals. For motorists, here are the options to use and dodge car congestion in the city.

Choose a traffic-free time.

If it is a must for you to visit Kampala, make sure to go there when there is no traffic. This is usually in the afternoon and lunchtime, most roads are free from car congestion. For those who are passing through, the city is usually not congested at night, starting from 10:00 PM up to 6:00 am.

If you find yourself in the city at times of traffic jam, it is better to remain on the main roads and avoid shortcuts. There are traffic officers on different roundabouts who conduct the proper movement of cars to avoid confusion which is not the case for shortcuts.

Use a Boda Boda

A Boda Boda is better than a car if you are on time and feel like getting around Kampala city quickly. A motorcycle can pass where a car can’t pass. Be sure to put on a helmet and keep all your gadgets in your pockets.

Advise the rider to use a reasonable speed and follow the road rules. Boda Boda riders are good at over speeding and not minding other road users.

Traveling from and to Entebbe

When driving from Entebbe town or airport you can use the expressway, and connect to Busega for those heading to Masaka and Mityana – Fort portal road.

If not Busega, you proceed straight to Bwaise for those who want to use Bombo road. For the Jinja trip, you can follow Namugongo road or continue with the northern bypass up to Namboole.

Another option for your drive to Jinja is Gayaza – Kayunga road. You drive from Kalerwe up to Bukoloto where you branch off and follow the route which heads to the Nile Bridge.

For motorists who are travelling to places in Makindye division like Muyenga, Buziga, Kabalagala, Bunga, Kansanga, Munyonyo, Mulungo landing site, Kigo, Nsambya and more, use the road sign posts and follow the Entebbe expressway up to Munyonyo round about.
