The Construction of Hoima International Airport
The Construction of Hoima International Airport
Located in Hoima district, this infrastructure is under construction and will be Uganda’s second international airport. Hoima is amongst Uganda’s prominent districts and shelters a thousand locals of Banyoro tribe.
Western Uganda is stocked with plenty of attractions and natural minerals including the oil in Hoima district. Oil is one of the reasons that this airport is established although it will be hosting both cargo and passenger flights.
Built to international standards, this airport will include a 5 km run away and is expected to be completed in April 2022 according to Uganda Civil Aviation Authority.
SBC Uganda limited, a subsidiary of Israel’s SBI international Holdings of Uganda is the major contractor of this project and it was assigned to them in April 2018.
The works to be put up by this construction company include building of electro mechanical systems, carrying out of earthwork and drainage activities, construction of an air traffic control tower, residence structures, cargo terminal, car parking lot, access roads, electrical center and paving of a 3.5 km of runways.
Hoima International Airport is located in western Uganda, a district that is in close proximity with a wealth of attractions such as Murchison Falls National Park in Masindi, Kibale Forest National Park in Fort Portal and more.
Therefore it won’t be a surprise when most visitors to Western Uganda land at this Airport than Entebbe airport in the central part of Uganda.
